James - “Jim”, a former Navy Vet, learned about the emergency food distributions at the Salvation Army through word of mouth. Jim has been disabled since a bicycle accident in 2007 which displaced his hip. On top of that, he has degenerative discs in his back and arthritis. Prior to becoming disabled, he worked in a restaurant. “This puts food on my table and helps reduce my grocery bills.” Additionally, some of the ready to eat foods allow him to use less electricity at home cooking food, so his utility bills can be lower too.
Timothy - The Kids Cafe at Project S.E.E, which is in a public housing project in Nashville, can serve up to 50 children at a time, and normally they have about 35 to 45 children, ages six to twelve, in their program. Most of these children are all from low to no income families, and all of them live within a two-block radius from the Kids Cafe. “You’ll never know the depth of assistance this provides the community. They are hungry when they get here.” Says Cynthia who runs the Kids Cafe, “Sometimes kids are home alone and barely eat all day.”
Kayla - Kayla visited a pantry for the first time with her daughter, Ava, and her parents, Ruben and Kimberly on a recommendation from a friend. “We have to drive 17 miles just to go to the store,” Ruben explains. They live out in the country and can’t afford to make the drive very often. They also can’t afford to buy groceries at the closer gas stations where the price of food is marked up extensively. Ruben says that Midland Baptist makes him feel hopeful. “We’re thankful there’s someone that still cares. There are a lot of people in bad luck.”

Southwestern Investment Group is fundraising on behalf of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to support their mission of feeding hungry people and working to solve hunger issues in our community.
In Middle Tennessee, 1 in 7 adults including 1 in 5 children struggle with hunger every day. Hunger is closer than you think, but so is the solution. For every dollar donated, Second Harvest can provide four meals to hungry children, families and seniors in our community.
How You Can Help
