Every November in Alabama, both Auburn University and the University of Alabama host a food drive, each aiming to collect more pounds of food than the other. Known as the “Beat Bama Food Drive” in Auburn and the “Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger” food drive in Tuscaloosa, the results of the competition have raised more than 6.6 million pounds of food for Alabamians in need since its inception in 1994.
For the second time, alumni chapters here in Nashville are replicating the challenge, benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to support their mission of feeding hungry people and working to solve hunger issues in our community.
Since March, it is estimated that 1 in 5 people including 1 in 4 children are food insecure in Middle Tennessee. Hunger is closer than you think, but so is the solution. For every dollar donated, Second Harvest can provide four meals to hungry children, families and seniors in our community.
How You Can Help
By supporting our Virtual Food Drive, your gift will provide hope to those in need. .96 cents of every dollar goes directly to Second Harvest's feeding programs. Together, we will fight hunger and feed hope.
